Daddy Knows Best: NBA Father-Son Duos

Comments Off on Daddy Knows Best: NBA Father-Son Duos

Which NBA father and son would be the best? If the most successful father-son duos in league history played a type of round robin affair against each other, here’s how they might finish, from worst to first:

#8.

Mike and Mike Dunleavy.

One reason the Dunleavys are seventh/last on this list is because it’s so hard to find an image of Mike, Sr. actually playing NBA basketball. Just kidding… but, not really.

#7.

Austin and Doc Rivers.

The Rivers family outplay the Dunleavys, but not by much. I’d call it a draw between the younger players. Doc would be a bit too quick for Mike, Sr.

#6.

Tim and Tim Jr. Hardaway

Tim, Sr. is at a slight height disadvantage in the father-son round robin. He makes up for it with superior ball control and agility. He carries Junior for the most part, and is able to push the Hardaways past the Rivers and Dunleavys.

#5.

Domantas and Arvydas Sabonis.

Too early for a verdict on the rangy Domantas, and Arvydas’ prime was mostly before his entry into the NBA. The Sabonis team has a height advantage, and a speed deficit. Their best is right at the median of this list.

#4.

Luke and Bill Walton.

We are imagining all sixteen of these players at their peak and in a healthy condition. Luke is a competent forward, while father Bill is an all-time talent who cannot truly be defended by anyone on this page.

#3.

Steph and Dell Curry.

If third place seems too low for the sharpshooting Currys, just remember that even the best long range bombers go cold from time to time. And then, there is the issue of Steph and Dell trying to play high level defense, which neither of them did during their NBA careers.

#2.

Klay and Mychal Thompson.

Klay is as deadly a jump shooter as Steph Curry, plus a bit sturdier and stronger. Mychal is not as potent on offense, but is longer and a good defender. They have one of the best two-way combinations in this tournament.

#1.

Brent and Rick Barry.

Rick and Brent are simply too good athletically, offensively, and defensively. They might not be the best at something, but they’re better at more things than any other daddy-kid duo in here.Â
