Conor v. Floyd : Why they unite America in perfect harmony

Comments Off on Conor v. Floyd : Why they unite America in perfect harmony

Why will Conor and Floyd unite America? Because they’re both vile dudes and you like vile people.

“No, I don’t,” you might be thinking. “I don’t like Floyd, at least, because of his apparent misogyny and racism and such.”

Yes, you do, ya liar. You like the bad guy. You grew to love Scarface and Ice Cube. You like Tony Soprano. You like Mumm-ra. You like Donald Trump, even if it’s only because you need someone to hate.

Or, you are counter-cultural and contrary, you love evil things and people, and you just go ahead and cheer for the worst among us.

If the American did not like these and other openly bad guys, they would not be popular and cheered for and used as entertainment vehicles.

Full disclosure: I won’t be watching the spectacle. I am not even one of the “I won’t pay, but I WILL be at a fight party” hypocrites. Nope. If you are playing that game, you are only fooling yourself. I have never sat through a mixed martial arts match, except maybe in the 1990’s when it was still rightfully seen as an overly-violent clown show.

I grew up in the Eighties and Nineties as a boxing fan. Then I grew out of it just as Dana White’s UFC was about to gain steam. I was a college student by then, and remember thinking it was sideshow circus celebrity boxing-level stuff.

Here’s news for ya. It still is a sideshow clown act. No matter how much money nor major media is involved. We have simply become accustomed to it incrementally. And then foolish sports talking heads tell you that “they really cleaned it up.”

Yeah, mixed martial artists are intense, conditioned, and skilled. But two men rolling around grappling put me to sleep. I only see that stuff by accident, for example in online adverts which sometimes automatically play.

Now that the solar eclipse pagan worship is over, Floyd vs. Conor hype has ramped up again. We all know the obvious bullet points which apply to the American sports fanatic:

You like the money grab. No matter where you’re from nor what you look like, the common denominator is that we have a love for cash. And we admire people who can gather a lot of it. Even as we secretly envy.

All of the Las Vegas wiseguy worship and wagering and “odds are” talk. All of the glitz and celebrity and smaltzy glamour. This stuff is mixed in. Like a pretty cake with worms inside. Our eyes are never satisfied with the trappings of wealth, but this event will give people a nice fat serving, at least.

This was a grasping for relevance, especially for McGregor. He is attracted to big cash payouts and things that money can’t buy, like status and fame, as all of us are on some level. That was part of the appeal of the August 2017 fight. That much money from media production and the fight crowd and the fighters’ payday is a magnet for bloodthirsty fans. If you’re saying “Duh” right now, chances are that you are so far gone into a desensitized way of thinking that you cannot see straight anymore.

You are fascinated with the race-baiting buffoon show. Now the term “race baiter” gets used a lot today. But it is a valid term. There are plenty of major media personalities who have carved niches based on pointing out pretty much everything about differences in skin color and ethnicity. These instigators are ostensibly concerned with social justice warrior stuff. And they may have that concern mixed in with their instigation. But it is mostly the love of money, and in the end their means are evil.

They will say things like “talking about race makes white people uncomfortable.” Which is true. But they are coming from the other end: They talk about race using certain methods and phraseolgy to MAKE people uncomfortable. They are like little boys who push sticks with doggy doo on the end into the faces of other children. Then they act innocent. “Why you upset?”

Which is not a bad question. Because even the whites and others who get uncomfortable are intrigued, through their anger. There is a guilt there, and some of it is deserved.

Even the blacks and others who constantly finger the wound of racial and cultural tension for their own profit are all in on this thing. Even the egghead who brings up the true history of race riots following boxing matches between white and black fighters, will be smiling at the widescreen with pleasure. “This will divide America,” some talking heads are saying, pre-fight. So they’re angry with white privilege, but what are they for watching something they feel is messed up?

You love violence. It’s strange that men who will foam at the mouth to defend women from abusive men will cheer for bloodsport.  Why do you claim to hate Floyd’s past with women, but somehow believe that Conor McGregor is tender with the ladies? What indicators lead you to that belief?

Remember when McGregor wore the C.J. Watson Golden State Warriors jersey? Go and research the background on that one and tell me he’s admirable, even standing next to Floyd.

The same feminist male gets excited at the football game where men are crippled for life just for a relative pittance. Even if it is millions, tens of millions, that is a pittance when you cannot lift a glass of water to your mouth without spilling.

The same radio talking head who admires Conor’s showmanship then says, “America hates and disrespects women” and will applaud the viciousness of one man choking out, or head-kicking, another man. Why are you okay with one and not the other?

Before you answer, “the two men agreed to, and are paid to fight”… does that really matter? Because they agreed to entertain you with pre-fight profanity and fight night blood? If that makes it okay, just admit you’re a reprobate hypocrite. Just stop acting righteously indignant over other violence. Stop asking the men who beat one another to death, literally, on football fields and in octagons to turn the switch at will when they are alone with a female. Because that is really, really difficult by most accounts.

For every ‘nice guy’ in the NFL there are a lot more who enjoy being able to whip another man and get paid for it. And they admit that it carries over into civilian life. The honest ones will come right out and say this.

You prefer being distracted from what is actually going on. in the United States and the world. “Look over here, not at what my hand is doing.” This is classically called misdirection. We all know it is used by the sleight of hand magician.

So, you are angry about Donald Trump’s tweets, and/or Barack Obama’s constant LGBT exaltation, or whichever federal puppet antics you care to name… but they are still not as interesting as the bread and circuses. Which logically means you don’t really know anything and don’t want to.

You just want your entertainment. And you’ll forget about it in a matter of hours, largely. So we are, as usual, being sold a narrative. Nothing I’m saying (writing) is news. But does any of it move you?

A few years ago, I was still one of many who doubted that you could make an MMA v. boxing event really happen with any legitimacy. And those of us who doubted are still correct. There is no legitimacy in Floyd v. Conor.

When Brock Lesnar brought some pro wrestling ‘cut a promo’ action into one of his fights, UFC kingpin Dana White seemed to be a bit embarrassed. Which is a head-scratcher. Because you’d think White would love any attention at all. His biggest fights are dwarfed by a popular boxing match. Boxing still humbles MMA, even as it is said to be dying. The money says differently, at least in 2017.

No matter the antic and no matter the sport it is still bread and circuses. You occasionally lift your flat screen-addled face to get outraged over Trump or Hilary or some SJW issue. But largely you’re in a stank hole of distraction.

You like the bad guy. You need your villain. You need Floyd and Conor. On whatever level, each or both of them allow you to get up on the high horse. Christians are usually scapegoated for the so-called ‘moral high horse’ but the unbelievers in the Bible have their horses, too. The difference is that atheists and agnostics, in rejecting that dusty ole King James Bible, have necessarily created their own standards. And from there, you can take sides based on these arbitrary, “evolving” standards in your own mind.

Picking Conor because “Floyd is a jerk and did such and such” is laughable. They are both reprehensible. Floyd is the six-inch blade in your side, and Conor is the three-inch blade. Either way, they leave an open wound. They are both sociopaths.

Whether you are classified as black or white, traditional, religious, progressive or what-have-you, so are you an entertainment-drunk sociopath for giving in to this clown parade. You know it and you’re gonna watch anyway. Because you most likely are a coward… afraid of not fitting in.
