What is this thing?

While traveling in a big rig, this bug, this moth, ran into the grille of the truck. Thirty minutes later, at a fuel stop, it was still there, alive and struggling to free itself.

It is amazing what flies around at night, which we rarely see. Makes me wonder what else is out there.

Most insects go splat in such a situation. But this thing was obviously made of sterner stuff/ And a bit tough. Yes, I rhymed. 

Anybody know what this thing is? A moth?

EDIT: On the front porch of my apartment I saw this other bug thing, very similar, also injured and struggling. These guys are hunting me down…
